| Silver (Hanafi) | 612.36 grams | PKR 250 | PKR 153,090 |

The word "Nisab" comes from Arabic and refers to the minimum threshold of wealth that makes Zakat obligatory. Think of it as the "starting point" — if your total Zakatable wealth equals or exceeds the Nisab for one full lunar year, you must pay Zakat.
There are two Nisab standards used in Islamic jurisprudence:
The Hanafi school of thought uses silver as the basis for Nisab calculation:
This is the more commonly used standard in Pakistan since most Muslims here follow the Hanafi school. The silver standard generally results in a lower Nisab, meaning more people qualify for paying Zakat.
The Shafi'i school uses gold as the basis:
The gold standard results in a much higher Nisab, meaning fewer people would be required to pay Zakat.
During the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the values of 612.36 grams of silver and 87.48 grams of gold were roughly equivalent. Over centuries, gold has appreciated much faster than silver, creating a significant gap between the two Nisab values.
Many scholars, especially those of the Hanafi school, recommend using the silver standard because:
Nisab is not a fixed amount in PKR — it fluctuates based on the market prices of gold and silver. As precious metal prices change, so does the Nisab threshold.
